Adolescent Therapy
Adolescence can be an exciting but challenging time. Teens are navigating changes in their emotions, relationships, identity, and independence. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space where they can explore these experiences, process difficult feelings, and develop the skills to manage life’s challenges with confidence.
Adolescence is a time of self-discovery, identity formation, and emotional growth, but it can also bring stress, uncertainty, and difficult emotions. In therapy, teens are given a safe and confidential space to explore their inner world in ways that feel comfortable for them. Talk therapy is combined with creative and projective techniques, such as drawing, journaling, or guided expressive exercises, to help adolescents communicate thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to verbalize. Through this process, they develop insight, coping strategies, and emotional resilience, empowering them to navigate challenges, strengthen relationships, and build confidence as they move toward adulthood.
Parents often reach out when they notice their teen struggling in one or more areas:
-
Anxiety, worry, or panic
-
Low self-esteem or self-confidence
-
Mood swings, irritability, or withdrawal
-
Stress related to school, peer relationships, or social media
-
Family conflict or difficulty adjusting to changes
-
Trauma, grief, or significant life events
-
Identity or self-expression challenges
-
Difficulty adjusting to a new culture
My approach is relational, collaborative, and grounded in helping adolescents feel heard and understood. I integrate talk therapy with creative, experiential, and reflective techniques to help teens explore their emotions, gain self-awareness, and develop practical coping skills. I meet each teen where they are, respecting their autonomy while supporting growth and resilience.
Sessions typically last 50–55 minutes and are tailored to the teen’s individual needs. Early sessions focus on building trust and understanding their experiences. Over time, therapy may include conversation, reflective exercises, creative activities, or skill-building work to help teens navigate their emotions, relationships, and challenges. Optional parent sessions can provide guidance and support for fostering growth at home.
Trust is central to therapy. What your teen shares is confidential, helping them feel safe to explore their feelings. Parents receive feedback about overall progress and wellbeing, but session details remain private—except in situations where safety or legal obligations require disclosure.
